Troop 2720 was established in 2019 and is chartered by St. Jude parish. Troop Meetings are on Monday nights from 7 pm to 8 pm year round at the St Jude School. There are a few breaks for major holidays and during summer camp.
Troop 2720 is currently a dual program unit, in which members can join and participate in Scouts BSA events and Girl Scouts events. Official membership and funds for each program are managed separately.
Once a new scout joins, the youth and adult leaders will help new scouts complete advancements and will let the parents know if something needs to be done at home. Typically we try and have a new scout achieve the following ranks within the first year of joining.
- Scout rank within 1 month
- Tenderfoot rank within 3 months
- Second Class rank within 6 months
- First Class rank within 12 months
Achieving the remaining ranks to Eagle will rely heavily on merit badge completions and service hours.
Bridging from Cub Scouts? One of the biggest differences from transitioning from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA is that the scouts must start to learn to be more independent. They will be challenged within their first few years to work on building their maturity and understanding the importance of things such as accountability, respect, leadership, and more. The biggest difference is that Scouts BSA is more of a “Scout Led” group rather than “Adult Led”. New scouts advance by attending meetings, activities, and camping. Older scouts advance by being youth leaders, completing merit badges, and service hours.
Fundraising is the primary revenue for the troop. Some of our fundraisers have been through selling popcorn and girl scout cookies. We also staff a booth at the St. Jude Festival as part of our service to our Charter Organization.
